If you have a car that’s been tucked away in the garage and you’re considering getting it fixed as a classic car, there are a few things to keep in mind to make sure it meets those qualifications. <\/p>\n

How Old Is The Car? <\/h2>\n

It’s important to note that before a car can be classified as classic, it must be at least 25 years old. These requirements are in place by the Michigan DMV definition. This is also a threshold set by local car clubs and organizations that identify classic cars. <\/p>\n

Classic cars must also be rare, meaning that there are very little registered like your vehicle, or it has a significant historical contribution to the community and history. Classic cars that are no longer in production are one example. <\/p>\n

The Use of the Car<\/h2>\n

Another guideline for the DMV to determine a vehicle as a classic is the use of the car. It must not be used for general use and daily commutes, but used for club and as a collector’s item. Driving a classic car in parades, tours, and car shows is prohibited as classic use of the car and not applicable to daily driving. <\/p>\n

Car Maintenance<\/h2>\n

If you want to have your car identified as a classic car, it must also be in great condition. It must be restored or well-maintained in its original condition. it cannot be modified and changed too much from the factory settings and original design. The purpose of classic is to maintain what it used to be, not how it keeps up with current vehicles and trends. <\/p>\n
